Call it love at first sip: I was smitten with Paso Robles, CA – a city gaining more and more notoriety for the wines it produces – almost instantly. This past October, I was sent to explore Paso and write a feature for TravelSquire.com. What I discovered is summed up in this excerpt from my story:

Paso Robles’ American Viticultural Area (AVA) has grown to include more than 180 bonded wineries, a five-fold increase over the past decade. Great! I just had an awesome zin from a vineyard in pasos robles. My trip to the wine store today may have to include a few other wines from pasos robles!
Yes they have some great cabernets….and, if you like Malbec, my new fave is a brand called Layer Cake out of Argentina. Yum, but potent with 14.9% alcohol so watch out.
After having spent time in Napa and Sonoma, it was exciting to visit this up-and-coming wine region. I got the feeling that I was sharing in something special. Nice to see that more people are talking about Paso Robles.
