Call it love at first sip: I was smitten with Paso Robles, CA – a city gaining more and more notoriety for the wines it produces – almost instantly. This past October, I was sent to explore Paso and write a feature for TravelSquire.com. What I discovered is summed up in this excerpt from my story:
It seems you can’t talk to anyone in this city without hearing the word “growth” –both in the wine industry and beyond. Paso Robles’ American Viticultural Area (AVA) has grown to include more than 180 bonded wineries, a five-fold increase over the past decade. Great! I just had an awesome zin from a vineyard in pasos robles. My trip to the wine store today may have to include a few other wines from pasos robles!
Yes they have some great cabernets….and, if you like Malbec, my new fave is a brand called Layer Cake out of Argentina. Yum, but potent with 14.9% alcohol so watch out.
After having spent time in Napa and Sonoma, it was exciting to visit this up-and-coming wine region. I got the feeling that I was sharing in something special. Nice to see that more people are talking about Paso Robles.
